Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Drug Interactions with Stop Smoking Pills and Others

I read this bit about a woman worried about drug interactions with stop smoking pill Chantix and her husband’s Priolsec:

My husband is taking CHANTIX to stop smoking, but now he feels bloated all the time, to the point that it’s sometimes a bit painful and he finds it hard to get comfortable. His eating habits have not changed, and he still gets to sleep just fine at night. On the good side he has stopped smoking 2 packs a day and cut down to just a few. He would like to keep taking CHANTIX, but he really feels it’s eating away at his stomach. He also takes PRILOSEC, everyday, and has always had bad heart burn if he forgets to take his PRILOSEC. WHAT CAN HE DO FOR HIS PAIN ?? and still take CHANTIX. Is this painful gut due to CHANTIX, or taking CHANTIX & PRILOSEC together. If so, what can he take to stop smoking, that will not effect the PRILOSEC. He really needs the PRILOSEC, heart burn runs in the family. Or, if he still wants to take CHANTIX, how can he avoid the stomach pain?

Any thoughts?  Leave a comment.  I think drug side effects are an interesting topic.

I took Chantix for 4 weeks and stopped smoking 1 pack a day, it wasnt hard and It was a hell of a lot easier than cold turkey..so much so, I;m sure I'm not going to smoke again
it feels real good. I didnt have the side effects that you mention, and I made sure I took the Chantix with meal and a full 8 ozs water like precribed.

When I don't smoke for a long time I start to get indigestion. Nicotine is a bit strange in that it causes temporary paralazyis of the tissues around which absorbtion occurs. Some people see a sudden increase in apetite upon stopping oral nicotine sources, and some, such as myself, get severe indegestion. The best cure for my indigestion was continuously eating things, thereby keeping the stomache from fully contracting (having something to contract on to and mix). Understanding that many people either can't stand to eat that much, or don't have a lifestyle to support it either due to time consideration or weight control, low calorie snacks can be good such as celery (also high in fiber), rice cakes, popcorn (non buttered), etc can help considerably. Over time, the stomache pain will go away ad his body gets used to not having nicotine. Prilosec should be nonreactive with Chantix, however to be sure I would ask a doctor or pharmisist.

Your husband would be wise to right now apply the discipline needed to start the diet plan set for people who suffer regular heartburn. He's going to have to apply to and stick with new positive eating and lifestyle changes; Prilosec only works to limits—the rest is on him.

He'd be equally wise to consult w/ his doctor about any negative interactions when taking Prilosec and Chantix.

once he quits smoking for good (no cheating) not even one.
he will notice the heartburn and gas and any other stomache issues will dissapear………..tell him to pick his quit date ( 7 days after starting chantix) he'll feel better
