after 45 plus years of heavy smoking, i've been breathing
fresh air for about 3 months now thanks to chantix (complete
the program even when you quit) -- it's had a big time effect
on my drinking to. My Doctor sez it's cause the pill messes
with the pleasure center of the brain (don't affect your
sex life tho)
References :
My husband went on this to quit smoking. It worked really well for him, it's been 8 months now.

The only thing is that there can be weird side effects. Hubby was bothered by insomnia, dry mouth and dizzy spells, but they got better as he got used to taking it.

The does it work question really comes back to you, and then the question becomes, "Do you really want to quit?". If you don't, then nothing will work. If you do, then you're already half way there!

When I quit, I used the patches for less than a week and haven't had anything since. It's been 8 months for me as well. The point is, if you're ready then you'll probably do pretty well.

But if you do slip, forgive yourself, throw 'em away, and do it again. It happens.

Good luck!!
References :
Personal experience.

Congrats on deciding to quit. Using chantix makes it so easy, we now refer to it as "quitting the weenie way". I started taking in in October and then got both of my bosses to quit too. The first week, I didn't think that it was going to work. About half way through the second week, I realized that I had been all day and hadn't smoked since that morning. The last few times that I smoked, I didn't even get halfway through before putting it out. I just didn't want it anymore. Sometime around the third week, I started to get an upset stomach if I didn't take it with a meal or snack. I only stayed on the Chantix for about six weeks. I got to a point where I was just forgetting to take it. And, by the way, no weight gain !!

Also, my doctor said that she has found that the standard dose does not seem to work as well for men as for women, probably just because they are generally larger than we are.
Makes sense that a larger person may need a larger dose.

Good Luck
References :
Smoke free for 2007 !!

I'm on day five , day eight is my total quit day , It is working for me . I have smoked a pack and a half for 30 years and today since 4 am when I woke I have had two cigarettes ( it is 11:00am now ). I have no urge to smoke but it is the habitual thing that needs to be broken. You need to change up your life style to make it work. I would have coffee and a cig when I first woke in the morning while sitting on a chair in the living room ,now I have a coffee no cig but sit downstairs in another room. Things like this make it easier, there are no longer any cravings and when you do lite up you ask yourself why as you aren't getting anything out of it. I wish you good luck in quitting. There are a few side effects but I haven't experienced any of them...
References :
My parents started taking it, unless your insurance covers it, plan on spending quite a bit of $. It depends on how much and how long you have been smoking, it also depends on how bad you really want to quit, you have to be determined to quit. My dad said it kind of made him feel sick, like woozy. My mom didn't have the same side effects... They are still smoking and not taking it anymore. They took it for about two months. My parents have both been smoking for 20+ years, my dad one and a half to two packs a day, and my mom one pack a day.
References :
Used it, but I didnt feel it worked, so I quit using it after 2 weeks, but still ended up quiting smoking (been almost 4 months now)
2 of my co - workers took it (for all 3 months) and are still smoke free 7 months now.
It may not work for you, it may work for you.
the big thing is you have to WANT to quit.
Willpower is still a huge part of quitting smoking.
Best of luck to you. its hard, but its worth it.
References :
My fiance is meeting with his doctor today to talk about that!

Guys at his work are on it and have stopped smoking better and faster than using the patch, gum, and pills.
