This is what a buddy of mine, who had tried the patch before with little luck, had to say about the stop smoking laser treatment:
I had this done 6 weeks ago, I have not touched a cigarette since. It was painless, fast and in my opinion worth the money.
The place I went to usually recommends 2 sessions, I have not felt the need to go back for a 2nd one as of yet, the 2nd being 4 weeks after the first.
After having it done I went home and fell asleep for about 3 hours, my daughter said she never heard me snore so loud, so it obviously does something to your body, it is not mind over matter. That was the only side effect I had from it.
At first I did have craving but nothing that didn’t pass with in seconds. None of these craving were like “OMG I have to have a cigarette” it was more like “oh yeah I used to smoke when I did this” such as drinking my morning coffee, more of a needing to do something with my hands habit (if that make sense).
For this to work you have to have the desire to quit.
I thought that last line was especially important!

As a pharmacist-and someone who has succesfully quit smoking-I would strongly recommend a prescription drfug called Wellbutrin along with nicotine patches. The patches supply the nicotine, and the Wellbutrin reduces the cravings. It's the best combination I know of, and recommend it to all me patients who want to stop smoking. Good luck! Steve

I am glad to know that you wish to quit smoking. Please remember that tobacco is a very dangerous substance on earth. The God has created this plant for medicinal use but people around the globe have taken it in a different way for their own pleasure and intoxication. When you smoke, the tar enters your lungs and keeps accumulating there like plague. In a long run, it blocks the veins and reduces the passage to accommodate more oxygen into your lungs and you can suffer from short of breath. The bad effect of smoking is well known factors for many kinds of cancers and other diseases. In the first place, I must say that you are inviting biggest trouble by wasting your money, time and health. It affects others in the family also. Please be away from such bad habits and live your precious life gifted to you by the Almighty by doing some good deed in life. Be a proud child to your patents and Society in general. The animals know the bad effect of tobacco and hence never ever enter a tobacco field to graze. You will never find the animals eating tobacco leaves in tobacco field. I smoked for 25 years and stopped the bad habits in one day without looking back. Now, I enjoy a healthy and stressful life. The money spent on smoking is also saved. My family is very happy now and they are really proud of me.
To reduce weight, cut down on your calory intake and shift to vegerarian food if you can and see the difference. After the change of style, it would be easier to shed weight. Take care and be in good health.

I agree with the Pharm. Welbutrin a.k.a Zyban is an antidepressant with anti-craving benefits. Plus one of its side effects is weight loss.
(Plus it does not have the sexual side effects of other antidepressants like Prozac.)
I have read people who use the patch have a much higher success rate of quitting than people who don't. Plus the patch is there with you all day, even when you wake up.
The other two things I would add are a support group/ number. Some insurance will hook you up with one.
Plus a daily affirmation. On a piece of scrap paper, every day write exactly: "I am a thin nonsmoker." Write it 15 times. Pay attention while you write it. Don't do it with the TV on, or where other people distract you. You don't have to believe it, just do it.
Affirmations can strangely use the "rut" machinery to create positive forces in our lives to replace the negative ones. So it is important to use them properly. Make sure to use present tense…like "I am", not "I want"…Phrase it in such a way that all words are positive, if you have to use "no" or "not" you need to re phrase it.
I.e. This is wrong: "I want to not need anyone"
This is better: "I am self reliant"
Try it out.

I went with the laser to quit smoking, it's been 9 years now. My Father did the same 5 years before that. It was very effective, never gained an ounce because they gave me extra shots for that and irritability. You have to be ready to quit though. Two people who went with me were unsuccessful. I had chest pains and was very afraid, they also recommended I take B complex vitamins, which I was already on.
Give it a try, contrary to what people are saying, they have obviously never tried it, go for it and start breathing and tasting again!
