Stop Smoking Cigarettes

What Kinds of Quit Smoking Aids Really Work?

This was a letter sent to me:

I just started using Chantix yesterday. I’ll tell ya, I’m still smoking as usual today. I smoke about a pack a day.  I’m mostly worried about the first week.  I’ve tried patches and gum. I’m giving this a try, but if the side effects prove to be too much, I will try something else.

I’ve read reports that say the use of Chantix might reveal some other form of psychological illness, including depression or even suicidal tendencies.  This worries me.  The first day my friend took it she slept 15 hours. Whew.  She said the next day everything went back to normal, though.  After a couple of days she didn’t have any cravings for a cigg, but just lit up due to habit.  She’s on day 10 and said she’s doing good now, really not wanting to smoke at all.

I’d like to get to this point, but I’m really nervous about the early side effects!!

Hopefully it all works out and and she can stick with it.

I took Chantix in May & June of 2007 and I was able to quit. I did not notice much difference the first few days, by day 7 I was decreasing the amount I smoked and I quit totally by day 10. I would suggest doing the on-line support at chantix.com, I thought it would be cheesy but some of the exercises really helped me. Side effects that bothered me about the drug – insomnia, very vivid dreams, and excessive belching.

PLEASE RESEARCh ***** Have you read the warnings on Chantix? VERY BAD SIDE EFFECTS… Please rethink taking this drug. It does work on alot of people but ALOT of people are have SEVERE depression, anger and suicidal thoughts and in some cases have actually done it. My partner got on this stuff and she quit smoking… but after approximately 4 mos on this medication she began to get SEVERLY depressed and EXTREMELY angry, wanted to die, so not knowing what to do I started researching on the internet and found out about all these BAD side effects, so please check it out for your self. She has been off of it for about 2 weeks now and Thank God she is SLOWLY getting out of it.

Having usesd Chantix before and seeing what an easy ride it was, I would say try it. I am diagnosed with depression and it did not make me worse. You should only be taking this drug for 3 months. Anything beyond that isn’t cool for any drug that says to use for 3 months. My only tip would be to ween yourself off it instead of just stopping them since after 14 days it’s built up in your blood. Like any other med that does that, it just makes sense or you’ll have withdrawal from the drug. Weening off it is easy.
