Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Looking for a Completely Free Way to Stop Smoking Cigarettes?

The only “FREE” way to quit is to quit cold turkey! Drink lots of water, eat healthy foods, and avoid trigger situations for a while. I’m trying to quit now, too. I have the most cravings when I’m at work and when I go out to a bar or restaurant.

I used “Smoke Away” several years ago and ended up quitting for a little over a year. I don’t know how it worked, but I remember not having any real cravings while I was using the product. I’ve tried the gum, and it does help with the cravings.

Call around to  local hospitals – often they will offer a  smoking cessation support group. That is a great idea that you and your husband could try. I live in Pittsburgh, so I’m surrounded by hospitals. There are tons of free smoking cessation groups, usually once a week.

If you’re able to spend a little bit of money, try “The Easy Way to Stop Smoking”. It’s a book by Alan Carr. I think you can find it on Amazon.com for less than $9. I have not read the book myself, but a lot of my friends have.  I have two coworkers who have successfully quit cold turkey after reading the book. I don’t know anything about the book at all, but it might be worth looking into if people are having success with it.

One last bit of advice: don’t quit alone. You and your husband need to support each other, and it’s great that you’re quitting together. I know from experience that it’s nearly impossible to quit when there are other smokers in the house! Also seek the support and encouragement of your friends. Try relaxation techniques, or meditation, or prayer.

I understand how difficult it is. I continued to smoke even after my dad died of lung cancer at age 50.

It takes people several attempts to successfully quit, but you can! You’re bigger than that cigarette, so don’t give in to cravings. There’s nothing about smoking that we NEED, right? Keep up the good work!

how to stop smoking cigarettes?

my mother has been smoking cigarettes since she was 17 years old and now she is 48. she has quit ones for a week and she was feeling so happy and her skin was looking so beautiful but she started again.so i wanna know how i should help her stop without making her take pills.
please help. im very worried.

All you can do is being encouraging, not judgmental. the addiction is very strong but many people have quit cold turkey so she should try again. I believe I read that some people have to "quit" 4 or 5 times before they quit for good.

It's definitely to YOUR advantage if she quits.

How do I help my father stop smoking cigarettes when he’s had the habit for over 30 years?

You can’t make someone quit smoking especially
after 30 years. All you can do is hope they will. This has to be their decision. You could encourage him to stop but that rarely works because it is an addiction.

Best ways to stop smoking cigarettes when drinking?

I’ve been smoking cigarettes when drinking for the past year. I will have from one cig to waking up and having no cigs left. I will occasionally smoke a cig when sober to relieve stress or to be social. Whats the best way to limit yourself from any cigarettes when you are drinking? Lately I’ve been trying to not smoke at all when drinking, but have been getting cravings. No haters please. Thank you in advance.

I am trying to quit smoking too and I found out everytime I have a drink I NEED a cigg. So I am giving up drinking till I can give up smoking.

What Can I Do To Make My Husband Stop Smoking Cigarettes?

I am a health-conscious person and I care about my husband’s health. He is not a chain-smoker. I keep telling him to stop smoking but he just won’t listen. How do I make him stop smoking? What can I do?

Tell him it’s you or the smokes. It should be an easy decision. That’s what I did to my boyfriend.

How did you stop smoking cigarettes?

For previous smokers, how have you quit smoking cigarettes? How long did you smoke before this and how much a day? Did you relapse at all? How long did the physical withdraw last? Does your craving always stay with you after a long period of time? How much money did you invest into it? Do you feel healthier, get sick less often?

I smoked for 6 years and I smoked a pack a day. I needed a cigarette or two each half hour, otherwise I would go nuts. I quit 3 times, but the problem was I drank more beer, because both of them go together. So I quit drinking first…..

One month after I was sober, I decided to quit smoking. I prepared myself ahead of time. I bought Nicoderm patches.

Here’s my tip, before you put the patch, smoke as many cigarettes as you can. After you finish one, you light another. You keep doing this until it makes you sick and you don’t want to touch another cigarette ( I think it took me 8 cigarettes in a row)

Once you are to that phase where you had enough of smoking cigarettes in a row, put the patch on. After a few weeks, you won’t feel like smoking anymore. The last 4 weeks of using the patch, you might feel as if you don’t need the patch that has the lowest dose of nicotine, but keep it as a measure of security.

That’s how I did it, and I have been smoke free for 6 years.
