my mother has been smoking cigarettes since she was 17 years old and now she is 48. she has quit ones for a week and she was feeling so happy and her skin was looking so beautiful but she started again.so i wanna know how i should help her stop without making her take pills.
please help. im very worried.

All you can do is being encouraging, not judgmental. the addiction is very strong but many people have quit cold turkey so she should try again. I believe I read that some people have to "quit" 4 or 5 times before they quit for good.

It's definitely to YOUR advantage if she quits.

You can’t make someone quit smoking especially
after 30 years.All you can do is hope they will.This has to be their decision.You could encourage him to stop but that rarely works because it is an addiction.

I’ve been smoking cigarettes when drinking for the past year. I will have from one cig to waking up and having no cigs left. I will occasionally smoke a cig when sober to relieve stress or to be social. Whats the best way to limit yourself from any cigarettes when you are drinking? Lately I’ve been trying to not smoke at all when drinking, but have been getting cravings. No haters please. Thank you in advance.

I am trying to quit smoking too and I found out everytime I have a drink I NEED a cigg. So I am giving up drinking till I can give up smoking.

For previous smokers, how have you quit smoking cigarettes? How long did you smoke before this and how much a day? Did you relapse at all? How long did the physical withdraw last? Does your craving always stay with you after a long period of time? How much money did you invest into it? Do you feel healthier, get sick less often?

I smoked for 6 years and I smoked a pack a day. I needed a cigarette or two each half hour, otherwise I would go nuts. I quit 3 times, but the problem was I drank more beer, because both of them go together. So I quit drinking first…..

One month after I was sober, I decided to quit smoking. I prepared myself ahead of time. I bought Nicoderm patches.

Here’s my tip, before you put the patch, smoke as many cigarettes as you can. After you finish one, you light another. You keep doing this until it makes you sick and you don’t want to touch another cigarette ( I think it took me 8 cigarettes in a row)

Once you are to that phase where you had enough of smoking cigarettes in a row, put the patch on. After a few weeks, you won’t feel like smoking anymore. The last 4 weeks of using the patch, you might feel as if you don’t need the patch that has the lowest dose of nicotine, but keep it as a measure of security.

That’s how I did it, and I have been smoke free for 6 years.

i want suggestions of things to get my mom to do to stop smoking.
i know its really hard but losing a parent is harder.

CHANTIX…CHANTIX…CHANTIX…

If I could fly a banner I would.
Right now today 9 months clean of nicotine….you couldn’t pay me to touch a cigarette… I do not get ANY URGES AT ALL when people smoke around me. (Well other than the urge to run away because I don’t want to get stinky!)

I swear I feel like I have never smoke before NOT a former smoker…There are NO cravings. Although sometimes I miss smoking like an old friend….missing something is NO WHERE NEAR a craving.

I don’t give a flying rats patootie what other are saying. It’s works.

I was a pack a day smoker for 25 years. I quit 9 months ago and will never go back. FINALLY

I tried patches, gum, cold turkey…..it only lasted for a couple months if that and right back to smoking.

These are the side effects I experienced while on CHANTIX:
1.Nausea
You are supposed to eat first then take your pill…I did not eat. I took it on an empty stomach…so every morning I had a nauseated feeling in my stomach…If it was really bad I’d eat a little something…..

I can handle quit smoking nausea OVER chemo nausea from getting lung cancer any day of the week….

2. Crazy, vivid dreams…now some people find this to be a problem…I happened to enjoy it…It was like alice in wonderland crazy dream. Very very vivid…

Now this can be a problem if your vivid dreams are nightmares. If this is the case…then take a benedryl or other OTC sleep aid so you will sleep a little deeper and calmer.

CHANTIX DID NOT CAUSE ME TO HAVE NIGHTMARES.

Explain to your mother that she DOES NOT….thats right DOES NOT have to quit smoking….Just start taking the pills. Only pressure her to take the pill..tell her she doesn’t even have to quit for you all you want her to do is take these pills…..I promise you by the 2 week mark she will not be smoking.

Within the first 10 days if she is still smoking at all it is only because the cigs are there.. (smokers hate to waste a pack of cigs…lol)

I have 1 friend that got me to do it…and I have coerced 2 friends to use chantix…..we are all now smoke free.
