Stop Smoking Cigarettes

Should You Go to a Doctor for Quit Smoking Aids?

If you’re wanting to quit and are wanting to employ the use of a quit smoking aid, checking with your doctor might be the best way to start, especially if you have health insurance.  They might direct you to try something over the counter first, such as the gum or the patch, but depending on your lifestyle, they might recommend something in pill form.  Regardless of what they suggest, your doctor has insight into what will work best for you, as they will take into account your overall health and lifestyle.

More About The Stop Smoking Pill Chantix

Has anyone successfully quit smoking using the stop smoking pill Chantix?   A Doctor had this to say:

So far, the patients I have prescribed Chantix for have reported some good results, with only a select few reporting uncomfortable side effects. (For those people, however, they are currently experiencing other pre-existing conditions for which smoking is their way of dealing with them)

Although the clinical trials showed some pretty hard evidence, the proof for me is in my own patient’s lives. If they can manage to successfully combine behavioural changes along with Chantix, then I’d say it’s a success. The only other thing I’m looking for is when they stop taking Chantix…whether they continue not to smoke. Time will tell, but so far, it’s looking good.

Is The Stop Smoking Laser Similar to Hypnosis?

Nope, it’s not!  Someone asked me this the other day.  Stop smoking laser therapy is more akin to accupuncture, in that the laser targets a small spot on one’s ear, from what I’v heard, and places a specific amount of pressure there.  I’ve heard from people who have tried it that it’s actually quite effective.

An Article About the Stop Smoking Shot

There have been a lot of commercials for the “stop smoking clinic” with an 86% success rate.   They use the shot there, among other techniques to help people kick the habit.

Here is a newspaper article that claims a stop smoking shot is successful:
The drugs do make you drowsy, so you’ll need a ride home – but the shot claims to have a 70 percent success rate after six months. http://www.wkyc.com/news/news_fullstory.asp?id=36129

Story About a Stop Smoking Pill

Someone wrote into me with this story:

I took the stop smoking pill Chantix for about 3 months (October 06-December 06). It worked great for me. Main side effects I had included upset stomach (during week 1 when I took the medicine and when I smoked and only for about 30 minutes after taking the medicine in all the other weeks), problems sleeping (week 1) and really weird, vivid dreams (entire time). Other than that, it worked great. I had no withdrawal symptoms from taking the medicine.

I highly recommend it. If you decide to take it find out if your insurance will cover it. If not, call around to various pharmacies and price shop. My insurance covered it so I just got it at the local Walgreens but one person I know said it was cheaper at Costco (no membership required to use their pharmacy).

I haven’t smoked since October. Good luck quitting!

Shot As a Quit Smoking Aid?

I heard about some kind of shot given as a quit smoking aid, but when I did some digging it looks like whatever product this is, it’s still in the research phase.  Does anyone know anything more?

Has Anyone Out There Tried the Stop Smoking Laser Therapy?

My co-worker is going on Friday to try out stop smoking laser therapy.  She’s tried all sorts of other stuff, and as she’s had a lot of bad reactions to some of the drugs out there, she’s hoping this will be a natural ‘remedy’ of sorts.

At this point, I’ve known a couple of people who have done it. One lady stopped smoking immediately. Another lady quit for a little while, but started back again. It’s like any stop smoking method; different people respond well to different treatments. She’s really got her eyes on the prize, and it’s costing her around $300 so I hope it works!

Chantix, the Stop Smoking Pill

A pharmacist the other day was telling me that stop smoking pill Chantix is hugely popular right now.  She said that her patients have claimed to have excellent results using it.  The side effects are pretty mild, too, though I have heard of people having bad dreams when taking it.
